Appointment of the new High Representative of the Coalition for the Sahel

His Excellency Mr. Hamadi Meimou was appointed new High Representative of the Coalition for the Sahel on September 19, 2023.

He takes over from Dr. Djimé Adoum, who has held this mandate since the N’Djamena Summit of the G5 Sahel on February 15, 2021.

Mr. Meimou served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Commissioner for Human Rights, the Fight against Poverty and Integration. He also served as a member of the National Assembly. A career diplomat, he was ambassador to several countries in Africa and the Middle East and permanent representative to major international organisations including the African Union during the Mauritanian presidency.
