Mission of the High Representative to Luxembourg

26 September 2024

On September 18, 2024, the High Representative of the Coalition for the Sahel, H.E. Mr. Hamadi Meimou, visited Luxembourg for discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had the honor of being received by H.E. Mr. Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

During his meeting with Mrs. Véronique Dockendorf, Political Director, Mrs. Laure Huberty, Director for Africa, and Mr. Georges Ternes, Director of Development Cooperation, Luxembourg reaffirmed its commitment to the Sahel. The High Representative, in turn, expressed his concerns over the worsening regional situation. All parties underscored the importance of sustained international engagement in addressing the humanitarian crisis, particularly in light of the growing numbers of refugees and displaced persons. There was also consensus on the necessity for external partners to remain dedicated to development cooperation.

As a long-standing partner of the Sahel Coalition, Luxembourg has been actively engaged in the region through its development agency, LuxDev, and has also contributed to European defense and security missions.
